Woodwork

This part of my website will contain my writing on working with wood.

It will not be uploaded until the taijiquan part of my website is complete.

I began studying woodwork at age 9 and won my first prize at aged 11 for a ship in Southampton Show. From aged 12 I studied under Derek Glew, a master craftsman, for 6 years. I learned design and construction, joinery, cabinet making, wood and metal turning, and finally began instrument making with a spanish guitar that I made for my sisiter when I was 17. I then had the opportunity to train in wood machinery in the USA as part of my AFS study scholarship.

I finally had the opportunity to put together a significant workshop in 1995 after I moved to Ireland.

For more than a decade I concentrated on house building projects including a two storey post and beam constructed 3  bedroomed house under the tuition of Ewen McEwan and then our current home, a two storey five bed-roomed timber framed building, square on the outside and circular on the inside.

I have managed to complete a few bespoke projects in the gaps when time allowed.
